So I've noticed my O.C. for a while has looked kind of unoriginal in some aspects and have tried to improve his design and I have to say the design has made progress just look:

...yeah... allow me to explain these designs

1st Design: I was just starting out on Youtube and naturally I wanted people to watch me but, what was I going to do sit in front of a camera? no I had to do something different that's just boring so I decided to try my hand at a fan character ... and failed spectacularly people saw RIGHT through the design and could tell it was sonic eventually I tired of this design and set out on a journey through rocky mountains and steep valleys to create a new one. which didn't bear much fruit often so I stuck with this design until I could make a new one

2nd Design:
This one has a bit of backstory it was during my......8th grade year :fp: which was a nightmare-no a piece of crap it was a very hard time in my life so much that... well let's say I was considering not being on earth any longer I disliked the sonic fanbase for bashing on sega,had a hard time focusing and getting assignments turned it and to make things worse a voice in my head which would later become a character "Doxide" until a certain fellow game developer helped me out and restored my happiness his name was Felipe Ribeiro Daneluz (danel for short last name) other wise known as LakeFepperd he made a trilogy of fan games I call the "Lakefeperd games" those games were:

These games made me think twice and made me realize the true thing I cared about: My loved ones My parents,teachers,my family this was in a time where everyone tried to "fit in" and act like a massive JERK thinking they were cool starting fights and such ( YOU WEREN'T EVEN ALLOWED TO HAVE OPINIONS!) and i realized that my own persona at that time had been so deep into that stuff... It couldn't be saved so I ditched it and with the new found positivity these games supplied me I tried to get away from that old persona it was pure darkness I had only one goal: the future if anything was going to save me from my dark persona which reminded me of all the bad experiences I had. The future was my only chance...
and I took it I didn't just want to succeed at pursuing my future I HAD TO otherwise I probably wouldn't be here today and after the year 2014 was done I had succeeded and thus these games mean a lot to me. So what does this have to do with the design? Well considering it was in that period I thought about  using the sprites from the game as a base and decided to try and track down the sprite sheet and the closest I got at the time was this:

Which for what I had planned there weren't enough sprites there to do but I thought "I know how to edit sprite pieces" (arms,legs etc.) and decided to choose the one that looked like dark sonic (It's official name is unkown but it goes by the fan given name of "Raiden Sonic" in reference to Metal Gear Rising: Revengance which had a song in it's soundtrack used in Sonic Chrono Adventure as it's final boss theme) So I used that sprite added some clothes re-colored his eyes blue and shoes green and the scarf green as well oh need I mention this was the era I Capped Every Word?

3rd Design:
The 3rd Design I re-colored white to reflect my overwhelming positivity and will to change for the better-to mature so I re-colored him white to match that I did have an edit of this one in the works where he had a different color of cape but that was it... and I still didn't have the energy to edit the sprite so I had more sprites so rather I did some research...
leading into nothing I had this for the rest of that year then, after much searching i found it...

4th Design:
I found out that Sonic After the Sequel,Before the Sequel,BTSAftermath,and Chrono Adventure used a sprite sheet called Mod.Gen:

and as said at the bottom of the sheet credit to http://shinbaloonba.deviantart.com/ check him out unfortunately the sprite sheet I had (the one above) lacked super sonic sprites so yet again i stuck with the old design when sometime this year the sheet was expanded...

and It had super sonic sprites as if to make things easier one of those sprites had a white color palette allowing me to color my O.C.'s head correctly instead of using 2 colors however it was just super sonic! BAH! (getting fed up with my unoriginality) and so eventually I decided to edit him AGAIN (Don't you just love all the editing? ) and revamp him however i was growing fond of his old design and I had the following plans:

Add Tail
Recolor shoes (green to black like my shoes in real life)
Change Facial structure (Still needs to be done but I haven't decided what I want him to look like yet I don't even have a thought image of it.)
 
So far I've added a tail and re-colored his shoes black this is where you guys come in 

EDIT: I've fiddled with the Spines of the character and am beginning to work on his facial structure now also I will now close the voting as I feel it unnecessary and remember that spoiler that said I wanted to keep upturned spines? well forget it I think the spines should be edited as of such it is now a ham sandwhich I mean deleted.

Also I will say I find that often people criticize my O.C. Do I appreciate it? oddly yes I do so I wanted to List a few things I wanted to change,keep,or just flat out don't know what i want to do with because If I can learn to sprite I will forget about using a "Base" altogether and just make an original sprite for him instead. I use the application Microsoft Paint and I do that for one reason: to conserve space. Beefy pc's aren't cheep my friends also I do not want to take the risk of getting a virus I've been through Windows XP,7, both of which got fatal viruses but I don't want to blow $99,000 bucks on a copy of photoshop either I have money but I'm not rich so If anyone's willing to teach me I cann fufill the below keeps and changes.  
Animations:
I have a plan on an animation in which my O.C. and his Dark half were once one but later split and tyler's darkness caused Mobius complete devistation to emotionally harm Tyler and he seemed to be powerless to stop his darkness due to the odds being stacked Against him and thus even though he seemed to be powerless he continued on to try and live his life by his decisions while his dark half had one goal in mind: end his life so he died unhappy. Unlike most animations however I want to base it purely on CANNON meaning:No hyper shadic,No nazo,No fire sonic, and DEFINITELY NOT THIS GUY:

because it's NOT cannon mecha sonic is no destructive overlord that is actually metal sonic he was destroyed years ago and the two are separate beings, Hyper Shadic isn't cannon because shadow met sonic WAY after the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles occurred so he doesn't even know what a Hyper form even is let alone how to attain it. and Yes I am aware Nazo is in Sonic X which was endorsed by sega but he was never seen in the show suggesting he was cut from the final product thus he is not cannon. The sprites have to be usable in these types of animation samples

I may not be able to make these types of animations now but I'm sure somewhere down the line It might be different
I do have Paint.net and I hear it can make some good animations if used correctly but I've rambled on long enough plus that's a discussion fo another day

also I'd like to bring something up the comments that say my O.C. is a recolor now contrary to what you're thinking I can take criticism and I enjoy it but if you're gonna say my OC is a recolor and leave without suggesting anything then how am I supposed to make it better also:

That is painfully obvious I'm experimenting with his facial structure and his sprite I thought about making his facial structure like in the Sonic Chrono Adventure sprite and as for his actual sprite I feel as if you guys won't be happy untill I end up making an Original sprite and my O.C. not being a hedgehog but I always did want him to be a hedgehog so it's up to you hedgehog or a different animal altogether? as for the spriting I think it's about time using a base stops however the next design then will take a while I'll have to plan it and make every sprite pixel by pixel and I have a LOT of sprites in mind to be used so yeah also I want you to tell me what the character needs the character is based on my own so he has likes,dislikes and hates I would like his likes to be part of his design and his hates will not be included in it so
No weapons nothing like that ultimately he is going to be a character that has a major goal:change for the better and I want that t be reflected in his design. so if you will base your suggestions on the character's personality in summary

Has no desire to hurt but help others when he can or do something nice for them. dislikes unnecessary violence his old persona,and hates doxide and his past (not Doxide's his own)

So from the video above I have learned a tad bit about spriting and have even tried it I have to say it's fun but incredibly long I actually tried my hand at it using the sonic 2 sprite which didn't land me anywhere yet oddly sonic 3's was no problem for me as seen below:

Orange is the one I made from scratch
the Blue one is the one ripped from a sprite sheet (they ripped the sprite directly from sonic 3) it took a long time and billions of mistakes but I think it came out quite well I then fumbled with the orange sprite resulting in this:

to me It looked great and so I recreated sonic's head using the method the  video described intending to change not just his spine pattern but his eye shape and well prepare yourselves and grab your trash cans.

EXACTLY! this design I had no idea what looked so good in a sonic 3 sprite not so much for Mod.gen how did this even happen? it made the old design look good! GOOD! How did I even do that? but the spine style still intrests me so which spine style? were the spines good enough to begin with? tell me how were the spines which set did you guys prefer? All Upturned All downward or Combo? I want to know to incorporate it into the design.

I see... I know that and I accept that criticism however when it comes to making original sprites + animating them I know for a fact I'd be well a tad bit...tuckered. I'll update this post to include what i wish to change and keep I will also add learning how to sprite to my list of things to learn so I'll have to find some talented spriters to teach me how to do it you may think it's easy but I know for a fact it's hard work oh well i say bring on the challenge! yet again thank you for your criticisms I will take these under consideration. when it comes to animations well lets just say...

This is the kind of animation I wish to make heck if I can possibly incorporate both the animations and spriting into my carrier as a game designer.

Spriting isn't hard, it just takes long, it's fun though.

Pro tip: Stop using Microsoft Paint, use Gimp or Paint.Net, also don't recolor, there's plenty of videos on youtube that can teach you how to sprite.
