Of Monsters and Men
spadeguy (2015-04-11 02:15:18)...I don't get it.
Nah, good short story! I can't really relate to his anger at simply being bumped into though.
I should probably write a new story... but will I finish it?

A man walks along a crowded street. People push past him, and they shove him, and he feels so, so lonely in this large crowd of people.
Betrayed by those around him, those who were close to him, the man lowers his gaze and reflects on how cruel the world is. He reflects on how selfish the world is. How cold and lonely the world is. How lonely he was.
One woman in the crowd bumps his shoulder, and she mumbles sorry, her gaze meeting his on some odd chance. His eyes are dark pits of despair and betrayal. He looks like a man who has lost all hope. Who is broken. Who is numb.
He looked like a monster.
But nonetheless, the woman smiled at him, her eyes green and full of life. She had no reason to smile at this man, but she did. It was just a small gesture, but done on impulse. Something inside her bubbled up and bloomed on her face. It lit up the small space she occupied.
The man frowned...but it got him thinking. He stood still in the middle of the street, then. People flowed around him like water parting around a rock. He stood there. And he thought.
