Camille sat in her room, her notebook inches from her hands. But she didn't touch it. She had a pang in her chest that throbbed at just the thought of doing any more homework tonight.

Something inside her head screamed at her, No! You still have math to do! And reading for History!

Camille only felt that pain get tighter. She has had no real sleep for the past few months. It was all abrupt naps, laying her head down at midnight and opening her eyes four hours later. She came home, she did homework. She ate dinner, when there was time, and never got it all done.

Camille felt a lump form in her throat. She was done trying. She would work until late, then get up early. She would go to school, only to find out she had forgotten some homework in her mad rush to finish it all the night before.

Teachers would pile more on. Say "have it by tommorow for half credit," and Camille would bow her head and nod in shame.

Camille's vision blurred, and she blamed it on being tired. She sniffed. Soon, the extra homework had her up later, and later. It was as if the teachers were not aware that she had more than one class she had to work in.

Math was easy, there was just alot of time-consuming calculating.

History, too, just reading, and terms, but the chapters were long and the words hard to define.

English was just reading, and filling out a chart, but it was usually pushed to the last thing, then forgotten.

Biology had a set of questions she had to do all the time, every night, and now a project.

Her other classes, her supposedly easy and fun electives, also gave out mounds of worksheets to fill out.

Camille felt so overwheled. She glared at the notebook full of notes and late work as if it spat poison. A tear was released from her misty eyes, followed by a sob.

It wouldn't be so bad, she knew, if she had not taken all of the AP core classes, but she wanted to impress her mother, who always seemed proud of her, but only if she brought home A's.

Camille didn't bring papers home anymore. Her grades suffered, hard, from the constant stress, as did her mind and social life.

Her friends were nonexistant. Homework was more important than friends. Trips for Band? She hauled her flute and her homework along with her on the bus.

Camille sobbed, putting her hands up over her face. She had tried to tell her mother about it, but she only kept saying that she was confident in her. "You can do it, Camille. Don't worry. Keep your eye on the prize." That prize was a colleges scholarship.

She sniffed, wiping an arm over her eyes. She couldn't cry now.

"But...I don't want to, anymore..." Camille sniffed again, her eyes puffy and her face a bright red. What if her mother walked in, and she disappointed her again? "I just want a good night's sleep..."

Camille, however, knew it wouldn't be tonight that she got it.

She pulled her notebook closer and picked up her pencil.

The sobs dwindled down to a pang in her chest again as she worked on her homework, her head bowed and her eyes glossy.
"I love your eyes...but only with ketchup."
