One day, I wasn't able to wake up. I could hear what was going on around me in real life, but I couldn't open my eyes or move. In the dream I was having, I saw a sky with clouds and whatnot, but the sun was directly above my eyes and the clouds were all positioned in a spiral-like pattern. The sun was in the center. I couldn't look away or change the image. It felt like hours before something finally changed. I drifted into a deeper sleep.

At least I thought that's what happened until I realized I had just died. I heard a voice speaking. Asking a question over and over again. I couldn't speek, so I could not respond.

"Do you want to be reincarnated again?"

It kept asking.

"Yes"

I thought, hoping it could hear me. For a while I continued to just see blackness. Then I heard the voice again.

"If you want to be reincarnated once again, you must find me in this world and kill me, before I find and kill you. We will both be spawned at a random point and be looking for each other. There are many hiding places. If you do not win, you will no longer exist. You won't ever remember that you ever were."

I was now in a cold, very dark room. There was a small light coming from the corner. My heart was now pounding. Somewhere in this dark room was a being who's voice was not human. I didn't know what it looked like, but it was coming to kill me. If it killed me, I would die permanetly. I would lose all my memories of all my past lives and never hear, see, feel, or even think ever again. I did not want to dissappear.

I couldn't help but start crying. A minute layer I realized that the unknown being might be getting closer to me by the minute. I quickly whiped the tears from my eyes and looked around. My eyes had finally adjusted to the darkness of the room. I was sitting down on a cold hard ground made of marble that was colored to look like a chess board. I expected to see some sort of creature sitting on one of the black or white squares, but there was nothing in the room.
I looked back up at the corner where the light was coming from. It was really high up, almost to the ceiling. It came from what looked light an orange square. As I walked over toward it, I noticed that there was something that looked rectangular and stretching all the way to the floor from below it. It wasn't until I started walking a little faster that I noticed how loudly my steps were echoing throughout the room. I darted my eyes around while spinning a few times, examining the entire room.

The room was at least 30 meters wide. There were four dark corners, including the one I came from and the one I was walking toward, parallel from there. The other two corners were covered in shadows. Could my enemy be hiding in one of those? Would it sprint toward me from there when I let my guard down?

I began to think about myself watching scary movies in the past, being scared, yet relieved that I wasn't the one experiencing the situation like the characters. Now I was. Not only that but I was completely alone too. I would rather be in one of those movies I watched than be in this situation. Dying would be my only worry and I'd have a few buddies with me.

"I wish someone else was here. I wouldn't care who it was."

I thought. I imagined the stupid things one of those movie characters would do if they were here. They would stare into the dark corners and call out "hello?!". Just thinking about me doing that made me start sweating. I made my way toward the corner under the light, constantly turning around to watch my back.
The orange square producing the light was actually a hole. A hole leading to another room. After closer examination, which was difficult considering how often I kept looking over my shoulder, I noticed that the recangular looking object going up to the hole was a truss. I climbed it slowly. I was constantly looking up and down, expecting the being tk either jump out of the hole or come climbing up from under me. The truss was cold and rusty. My shivering jept making it shake, causing too much noise. I didn't want my enemy to hear me, but I couldn't stop shivering.

I climbed faster, keeping my eyes on the square hole just incase some monster jumped out. When I got to the top, I waited a few moments, then quickly jumped through the hole. I landed on soft carpet. I was in a confortable looking room dimly lit by a fireplace. Across from the fireplace was a couch and coffee table. The room was rectangle shaped and only as wide as the hallways of a highschool. The walls were lined with pictures of many random people I've never seen before. On the other side of the room was a closed wooden door. Was the unknown being on the other side? Was it hiding in this room somewhere? That was a possibility, as the room did have a few dark spaces that anyone could easily hide in. The couch was too low to the ground for anything to be hiding under it, so I took a seat and stayed for a moment. The room was warm.

If it weren't for my situation, I would have felt really comfortable in this place. The silence was driving me insane. I sat for hours, constantly glancing at the door and the hole leading into the room I came from. What did the being I had to kill look like? Was it hideous? Did it look like a human? The more I thought about it, the more scared I became.

I would give anything just to have some company other than my potential killer, hiding who knows where. After what felt like a couple of hours, it dawned on me that nothing would happen unless I started moving. I had to either look for whoever/whatever I was up against or sit there on that couch for eternity.

(Continued)

At one point I got tired of darting my eyes back and forth at the square shaped hole I entered the room from, the wooden door on the other side, then back at the swuare hole. I slowly and as quietly as possible, began to scoot the couch over to the hole. The back of the couch was now blocking the square shaped hole, and when I sat on the couch, I was facing the wooden door. This way, my opponent could not possibly enter the room through the door without me noticing. If it came through the room I came from, which I was pretty sure was empty anyway, I would be able to hear it climbing up the truss.

I waited for so long, knowing that nothing would happen unless I moved, but denying it, hoping that the being would walk through the door eventually and we could fight to the death. Maybe I could quietly dash to the dark corner next to the door when I heard the being turning the doorknob or walking towards the room I was in, then I could surprise attack it when it started walking through the room.

I stared at the door for hours. I didn't get hungry or sleepy at all, probably because I was dead. Thanks to that, I could have stayed on that couch forever, prepared for my enemy's arrival. I could not, however, handle being tormented by the memories of the life I came from that I'd never be able to return to. Unless I went to seek out my enemy, I would be stuck here with my memories, feeling lonely. It was a fate worse than permanent death. Was my entire existence just going to lead up to the moment I decided to sit on that couch, look at that door, and begin my endless downward spiral of desperation? I couldn't let that happen, but at the same time, I was scared to move.

What if I just sat there, repeatedly thinking to myself that I should move, but didn't ever do it? What if someome else that died has been doing that since near the beginning of time and nobody could help him or her? What if said person was there now, in tears, now unable to even remember anyone from their past life because of the thousands of years they had been there?

"Wait a minute, if I continue to sit here and I lose all my memories over time, that would completely defeat the purpose of trying to stay alive. What good would that be if I could never remember anything from my past life? I have to move."

I thought. I got on my knees infront of the couch. The carpet was soft. It helped me calm down a little. A quietly crawled over to the door. After a few minutes of aimlessly staring at it, I pressed my ear against it. I could hear nothing breathing on the other side. Was the enemy even there? Was the door going to lead outside where a massive forest was that the enemy could be hiding in? There were no windows where I was, so as far as I knew, it could lead to just another room.

I would've been a lot less scared if I knew what the enemy looked like. I considered turning the door knob then immediately backing up as the door opened up. That seemed like a good idea. I stared at the doorknob. No. This is my only chance to make sure I don't cease to exist. I had to think of an idea that was sure to prevent me from losing.

I walked backwards towards the couch, keeping my eyes on the door. I assumed the room behind it was empty, but stayed alert as I moved the couch towards the door. I placed it three feet in front of it. Standing behind the couch, I reached my arm towards the door knob. I made sure I was mentally prepared, then quickly twisted the knob and let go. The door slowly fell open. I crouched down a little, staring into the room on the other side of the door.

There was nobody there. Just another room. I could see a hallway leading out of the room on the other side. I climbed over the couch, one leg at a time and hesitantly crept into the room. The walls were light blue. The ground was covered in grass instead of carpet. The room was completely empty except for the huge tree in the middle.
