Yes, that's what I suggest, make an economy.
For 3DSPoints.
Currently are these points very useless once you've bought anything you've wanted in the shop. Making it as a currency would be interesting.
Here's why.
An economy encourages people to actively chat, post and play games (if they reward points) to become wealthy. People will do investments, trading, or other ways to get as much points as possible.
But they would need a reason why. Perhaps for buying a new color that you can write with in the chat, or that new game for the 3DS browser, or an own icon, anything would encourage mercantilism.
Of course do you also have factors like inflation and deflation. We could take anything as a role model, like the WoW economy, or even real life governments to prevent such things.
I do know it would be a complete overhaul to implement such a feature, but it could encourage more activity and with an admin dedicating some of his free time and people willing to give advice on economy, this could be a reality.
Anyone can dream, right?
