The sporadic bump attacks are universally agreed to be incredibly annoying, right?

Unstickied threads that haven't been commented on in over 5-10 days should get an automatic lock. The 30 day thing is too lax.

I'd like to put emphasis on the commented on in over 5-10 days part. That's to prevent confusion. Popular threads over five days old would still be open that way.

I'm not sure if something like this is even possible, but if it is, I'm confused as to why it's not a thing.

The only problem I see with this is that when a thread is locked, doesn't it get bumped to the top?

If so, it'd be nice if thread locking didn't bump. I'm just full of suggestions, aren't I?

Then there'd be no eartly reason to not at least try to implement this system.

To further prevent spam, how about limiting the amount of new threads allowed to be created within a set period of time? This feature would take the total from that whole forum so you can't switch over to another account.

I can see problems with this though.

If nobody has commented on a thread in 10 days, they won't comment on it in 30 unless they have the intent to bump or spam.

If you would do so more often, you'd realize that several days can pass without a single comment in a thread. This is very common, but that's not to say weeks passing by without activiy is rare around here.
