The first images of CoroCoro have come up, and this is some great news!

Mega evolutions:

Mega Gallade
Ability: Inner Focus
Stats: ???
Other: YYYYYEEEEESSSSSS FINALLY!

Mega Sharpedo
Ability: Strong Jaw (aww, Tyrantrum's signature ability was taken away. The only thing left for it is releasing it's HA)
Stats: Every stat is increased.
Other: This was obvious, Archie having a mega evolved Pokemon on his team basically confirmed it. RIP competitive Tyrantrum until they release it's HA.

Mega Camerupt
Ability: Sheer Force
Stats: Massive speed decrease
Other: This was also obvious. This will probably be used by Maxie. But WHAT THE HELL?! This need a speed buff, not a decrease. It had 40 base speed already and was already outclassed as a slow, tanky special attacker by Mega Ampharos (they both have cool hair though now). With that 4x water weakness, I say this is Mega Obamasnow 2.0.

Other stuff:

Wally confirmed.
Primal Groudon's ability is Land of Endings.
Primal Kyogre's ability is Sea of Beginnings.
They both activate Strong Sun and Strong Rain respectively. Groudon's new move is Cliff Blade.
Kyogre's new move is Origin Wave.
Rayquaza holds a secret to mega evolution. Hoping for Primal Rayquaza.

That's it so far. Hope there's more.

I wonder, will Wally still have his Gardevoir, or will it become a Gallade instead?
"Ugh, I need to go masturbate now. Whenever I get mad or worried, that's what I do."

HanShotFirst (2014-09-11 00:26:46)
Tyrantrum had nothing going for it, period.

Sharpedo will literally keep doing Sharpedo things, only better, becase a Base 120 STAB Dark move with a chance to flinch? That's straight up OP.

You also forget that Sharpedo's HA is Speed Boost, so it will literally smash through everything at +1 speed.

Tyrantrum couldn't compete anyway because it had no STAB moves or decent coverage options to abuse Strong Jaws anyway, while Sharpedo gets Crunch and Ice Fang, alongside the elemental Fang moves via tutor from prior gens.

Tyrantrum was disappointing honestly. Rock-Dragon is a lot less viable then you'd think.
I should probably write a new story... but will I finish it?
Anyway, I'm Aaron

I read this like 10 hours ago.

I want to see a mega Typhlosion so I can pair him up with megazardY and make use of Eruption. That would be OP.

Well, only if typhlosion gets a significant boost in speed. Imagine if he got something like solar power. That Eruption would kill.

People say everything is OP, true. What I was describing actually would be OP, though.
What HanShotFirst said wouldn't.

To a degree, you are correct, It's not Game-breaking. It still is, however, a stupidly strong ability on a Pokemon with stupidly strong moves.

Have you ever used Sharpedo prior to hearing of the Mega? It's a strong Pokemon who's Dual STABs are resisted by very few Pokemon, while still in possession of a decent coverage movepool. Going Mega gives it a boost to all of it's stats, which were actually pretty good (Aside from it's defenses, which were paper).

Again, After 1 turn of Speed Boost, Sharpedo will literally shoot past all relevant threats while still rocking it's stupidly good STAB, offensive stats, and movepool, with an ability that abuses a STAB type (Dark), with options in his movepool (Fire, Ice, and Thunder Fangs) as well.

It's weakness was Priority destroying it's paper thin defense, but now he has a stronger Aqua Jet to use and better defenses to not get destroyed by every burrito-punch Scizor.

Also, you can only Mega once per battle, Stealth Rocks exist, Flash Fire Heatran exists, Tyranitar exists, and Drizzle is still a thing.

Your Zard-Y would need to be slower to get the weather off, M-Typhlosion must be very fast to get the Eruption off, your opponent must not be resistant or immune to Fire, and must not have priority to weaken Typhlosion, in turn weakening Eruption.

There are so many things that ruin that combo's Sunny Day it can only be broken when there's nothing that can handle it, but the same can be said for Power Trick Shuckle in Trick Room, or any gimmicky Pokemon.

Hell, you could say the same for Unown sweeping your whole team if set up and with no interference.

There aren't many things that are going to ruin M-Sharpedo's day because it doesn't give a damn about half the things your "OP" combo does.

All that stops it are

A-) Things it cannot hit [Ex: Azumarill if lacking Thunder Fang]

B-) Being hit by strong priority moves [It beats Talonflame though, if it has Aqua Jet]

C-) Being outsped by Choice-Scarfers (Ex: Scarfed Garchomp)

So basically, common frail sweeper weaknesses, and his strengths reflect how strong he is for a frail sweeper.

My mind was blown by all this competitive Pokémon strategy.

I just like to spam Moonblast.

Honestly, most of my time is spent futily searching for shinies.

MegaZardY works surprisingly well, despite all those weaknesses.

Things are different on paper, not the same as when they are put to practice. I know from experience that one boosted Heat Wave from Charizard will take at least half the HP of almost everything that doesn't resist it. I'd imagine that a full-power Eruption would have KOability, considering the significant difference in base power, even without factoring in Solar Power.
Even assault vest Goodra would have trouble absorbing all this special attack power.

Again, You can't afford to invest speed into Megazard-Y or you risk losing the weather to any Snow Warning/Sand Stream/Drizzle user, namely Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar, and god knows you're not switching into that to get the sun up. However, if you don't, you have a pokemon with a ty defensive typing incapable of staying in, and another with an equally ty defensive typing relying on maintaining high health and a weather effect to do damage.

That's a very terrible weakness to have, in both singles and doubles.

Let's also not forget that common priority abusers such as Talonflame can and will put a dent in M-Typhlosion before it can let an Eruption fly, while still being faced with the risk of being outsped, as you're kidding yourself if you think Typhlosion's speed tier is at all impressive.

Zard Y is strong, but it's not infallible, and you're taking away a good teammate for it if you try to put M-Typhlosion with Eruption in a slot.

There's a reason why no one uses STAB Eruption on anything, but people use Water Spout on Wailord and Kyogre. It's because Water types don't suck as hard defensively, and both have giant HP pools.

I use a jolly ZardY. With 252speedEVs.
#ChangingTheMeta

Again, what you're telling me are the couple instances in which it doesn't work. It works the rest of the time, and damn well.

HanShotFirst (2014-09-17 15:47:01)
Thing is, once again, it only works if you can set it up uninterrupted, and if you can keep Mega Typhlosion at 100% HP to prevent Eruption from being weaker than Flamethrower or Fire Blast. Typhlosion lacks the bulk and the speed to pull that off, but if the Mega stat boosts go there, it lacks the Special Attack power to do anything, making it inferior to M-Houdoom, who isn't relying on an unreliable move, has the stats to do as you're suggesting, and has an actual movepool to use, unlike Typhlosion, who's movepool is pretty dry of good options.

The risks don't outweigh the reward, and a lot of these risks are pretty damn big ones. It's the same as saying Power Trick Shuckle in Trick Room is "OP"

Sure, I can tell you all the cases where it doesn't work, but there are literally dozens of sweepers who do as you're description of Solar Power M-Typhlosion Eruption in the Sun, with half the set up.

M-Houndoom, namely, just needs the sunlight. It doesn't need to rely on Eruption, it has it's own priority, a decent speed tier, it's own boosting moves, hell the only thing M-Houndoom doesn't have is recovery, but it doesn't need it because Fire Blast does the same damage at 1% HP as it does at 100%, Eruption loses to Fire Blast in damage after a single decent hit.

You literally cannot afford to rely on so many things being in your favor in an actual battle, such as keeping M-Typhlosion at 100% long enough to get a few Eruptions off.

Also
>Jolly Nature Zard-Y
>Not Timid for Special-based
>Not Hasty for Mixed
>Potentially Physical Zard-Y

I'm done.

carlos11 (2014-09-17 22:45:17)
I meant to say Timid.

What setup are you talking about? We're talking doubles/triples here.
All Typhlosion needs is a mega that will add to his already decent speed & special attack, which is pretty much a given (where the hell else would the 100 points go?), and a partner with drought. It's not hard to imagine a Mega evolution for Typhlosion which grants him, at the very least, +25 Sp Atk and +10 Spd. I never even said that Typhlosion would only have Eruption in his moveset, only then would he truly rely on it, I'm saying that at full power, it would be extremely powerful, practically guaranteeing a KO in the first turn (as long as the partner also deals damage).

When you have 78/78/85 defenses as well as terrible defensive type on a Pokemon with Eruption, your fun is literally done the second you get outsped/Out-Prioritized and hit, regardless of Format.

You are 100% better off just running Fire Blast on the Pokemon in the description you gave, because you might as well have 3 moves if you pack Eruption on that, after the first time you get hit.

Scarfed Typhlosion + MegaZard-Y is safer than MegaZard-Y+ Mega Typlosion, ignoring the obvious "Only 1 Mega per Team, per Trainer", because at least Scarfed and with +Speed Nature, you can outrun Non-scarfed mons and get your Eruption off before you get blasted, stray Brave Birds, E-Speeds, Mach Punches and Aqua Jets aside.
