NOTHINGNESS? Dude. We're talking about a 3ds fansite! There's no color that supports a 3ds. A background wouldd lag.
Of course nothing changed.
It can't be cowboy themed one week, icecream themed the next!
This site is for fun, Nintendo, and chatting. We can't just change the whole theme. White makes it clear that this is about the 3ds, Nintendo, and fun.

I agree to the white background but I slightly disagree on Shimonifa's idea because some kids might not be able to see the words.
