Hello! Welcome to my newest review on a 3DS title! This time, I'll be reviewing a 3DS indie eShop title, Moon Chronicles by Renegade Kid!
Moon Chronicles is a remake of a DS game Moon. It's a action/adventure FPS. It features updated visuals, 60fps in 3D or 2D, bonus missions, and DLC. (Not available yet)
STORY
On June 4th, 2058, a top comander, Major Kane was sent to the moon for some kind of experiment. All the sudden, a mysterious life form invades the moon and takes over the lnar base. It's up to Major Kane to stop it, and restore the base.
Overall, not as quite as exciting as I thought, but at least I know why it happened.
Unlike other games, a random war appears and starts killing people.GRAPHICS
Graphics are quite good for a 3DS game! Very detailed, the lighting is very well suited to the enviroment, and smooth edges on some places of the base. 3D effect is pretty good, especially when there is a lot of things in a room. You can actually tell distance apart from ciratin objects and enemies. Cutscenes are terrible. They're blured, pixlated, and not that great frame rate. Speaking about frame rate, the game runs at smooth 60fps in 3D or 2D!
Overall, huge improvment from a DS to a 3DS game remake.
GAMEPLAY
Controls are pretty easy to use. If you played Kid Icarus: Uprising before, then you'll be familiar with the controls. Circle Pad to move, touch screen to aim, L button to shoot. As you progress the story, you'll get new weapons. At first, I wasn't quite sure how to change weapons. There weren't any instructions on how to change weapons, unless if you read the eManual first. So I struggled a bit to find out. It was the + Pad, again, like KI:U. Aiming is also kind of hard. Some of the weapons will make you shake, making your aming innacurate. What's even more annoying, some enemies are small, and moves pretty fast. With a weapon with innacurate aiming, trying to shoot at those things will make you rage. Gameplay is pretty leniar, but you can explore at some parts of the base.
Overall, decent gameplay and controls.
MUSIC AND SOUND
Music is pretty mediocre. Not that great memorable music, and catchy tunes. Sound effects are ok. Not the best, but at least it's pretty decent.
Not that much to say, but overall, ok.
CONTENT
There isn't really that much content right now. So you're stuck with a single episode. More would be available as DLC like I said at my Story Content info.
REPLAY
When starting a game, you'll be asked to play a dificulty level: Rookie, (easy) Normal, and Veteran (Hard). Each mode will have its own time recorded, kind of sweet for speed runners. Each episode (or one, but all will do the same) will have some collectables to unlock bonus missions. Then those missions will also be recorded on different dificulties.
Overall, ok replay value. But as of right now, there isn't really that many things to do without the DLC episodes.
CONCLUSION
So if you've been wanting this game, it is not a great time to get it. It's better to wait for all DLC to be available at some point. But the game itself is great, but got it at the wrong time!
SCORE
7.0
So that's about it! Thank you all for your time reading this! As always, happy gaming!
