TREEhugger101 (2014-03-16 17:18:44)CALM DOWN AND QUIT ARGUING.
Harfod can style her profile however she likes, but she will have to accept the consequence of people not being able to view it. (Though on my PC I can view it fine, and I have to admit, it looks preeetty good. Good job, Harfod.)
AirJordan, you need to stop using Harfod as an example of a laggy profile. Though it may be true, it doesn't mean you need to advertise her profile everywhere.
This thread was on TIPS. You don't need to follow them if you don't want to.

I'm not really sure if I put this in the right forum (I don't have any codes to tell you or anything) so go ahead and close this if it's not supposed to be here.
Alright, so I've been noticing a lot of overdone and laggy profiles- that aren't exactly pleasing to look at despite all the flashy, fancy borders and GIF backgrounds. So, here are some tips.
1. Try not to overdo it. Sparkly, bright pink text everywhere, sixteen million borders ALL OVER YOUR PROFILE, and GIF backgrounds of JB shirtless? Flaming tigers mauling (somehow alive) motorcycles to death and GIF images of some stupid DBZ character screaming on your comments? This usually makes the 3DS/DSi users unable to view your profile fully, not to mention it isn't the slightest bit pleasing to view.
2. Backgrounds. Sometimes I come across tiled backgrounds, where there's a tiny image tiled over and over again. This usually makes your profile look the teensiest bit noobish, though there aren't many ways to avoid this other than to use one neutral color as a background or try using a checkerboard pattern where everything is supposed to be tiled. Also, when the text color is ALMOST or EXACTLY THE SAME COLOR AS THE BACKGROUND, it's obviously hard to read and is very annoying.
3. Extra text 'n' stuff. Alright, you know when you put text before and after Comments, '___'s Profile', and in the comment signatures? Let's just say "Hi u r in the wonderful kitten land Fluffikinz's Profile HAHAHHAHAHAHHA" doesn't exactly make sense. However, "This is the wonderful kitten land OF Fluffikinz's Profile, feel free to laugh" makes the titchiest bit of sense.
4. Here's some extra stuff I thought might be helpful:
- Your background-background (like, when you have your profile up and behind that is the white default border for 3DP) can be tiled or crazy, since it isn't that showy and is only a border. However, you may want to style it according to your profile background. EX: Baby blue profile background, black stripy background-background.
This gives your profile background a mellow look with the background-background being a nice accent. For another example, on my profile I have shades of blue checkerboarded for my profile background, and background-background is black patterned with multicolored pixel sketch.
- LOOK UP COLOR CHARTS ON WIKIPEDIA! These are EXTREMELY useful if you want a checkerboard patterned background. They have small color swatches put into nine squares. When you set it as a background, it tiles itself, but doesn't look bad because it's supposed to repeat itself. As a plus, they have hex codes for EVERYTHING, it's awesome. EX:
Here's the link to Wikipedia's list of colors A-F, you can find the links to everything else on that page. Another tip: Deviations of colors such as robin's egg blue and magenta do not have color swatches, since they are not genres of colors. Blue, violet, red, orange, and solid colors like those will have checkerboard swatches.- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colors
- When you are setting backgrounds on your profile, choose a color for the text that is opposite of your background on the color wheel. EX: Cyan background, magenta text = easy to read. Here's another link to a full hex page for profile design:

Note: 3DS/DSi users may not be able to view the links on this post since they aren't formatted for mobile viewing.

That's pretty much all I have for now. Hope it helped.
EDIT: Extra stuff.
