After working with some of the most used web programming languages (HTML, CSS/3, PHP, JavaScript...) it can be a hard choice since many programming languages contain many awesome functions.
As of this date, I would say that PHP is a pretty good one, what makes it awesome is the fact that it executes it's scripts on the server (not browser).

PHP and MySQLi, definately.

PHP because I love scripting languages, and because it works with MySQLi.

MySQLi, because it's so simple. Sure, when you start learning it, there's a few errors, and it takes a bit to get the feel of working with databases, but after that, it's kind of mind-blowing how something so powerful can be so simple.
