Nintendo 3DS Data Transfer Help?

So I'm getting the Zelda 3DS XL, and I need to transfer all of my data from my old 3DS to the new one. Can anyone explain how I do this exactly?

I'm pretty sure it involves the transfer app...

OK, so ignore that question, I've figured it out.

But I have a new question, how do you log in to your Nintendo Network ID on your 3DS? Is an update required?

The update is not out yet, saddly. It'll be out next month.
