Their is a rumor that third-party developers have been receiving free development kits from Nintendo. This rumor comes from Jonathan Holmes who works at Destructoid stated this via Twitter.

no only to 3rd party developers. imo if this is true then Nintendo might be getting desperate. this good and bad news if this is true cause this could encourage indie developers to come and make games for the platform.

Indie wise Playstation is still better. Seeing how absolutely terrible the DSi and Wiiware platforms were for indies it would have been hard for Nintendo to not "make great strides."

And you're right about casual games, though I seriously doubt most gamers would prefer Just Dance 4 over Bioschock: Infinite.
