R4 For 3DS
R4 3DS Cards are the new and most easist way of putting Homebrew apps and games on your 3DS. Homebrew games and apps are basically unauthorized software for alot of game systems, in this case, a 3DS. R4 stands for "Revolution For".
R4 3DS Cards are a DS like game cartridge, holding a SD card inside of them. You can download any Homebrew app or game from the internet, put the Hombrew software files into your SD card, and put the SD card into your R4 Card. Then you load the software thats built into the R4 Card on your 3DS, and you will then be able to use any Homebrew app or game. DS Homebrew software will also work too. Here are some 3DS/ DS Homebrew software examples: DSCraft, DSOrganize, and my favorite, MoonShell. Also, you can put ROMs on your 3DS with your R4 Card.
Information About R4 Cards in General

The R4 Card is simply a device that works with your DS console and now thanks to new improvements also works with the Nintendo DS, DSi , DSi XL and 3DS consoles depending on which version of the card you purchase. The huge success of the R4 Card is mainly down to its ability in allowing you store extra files on your console thanks to its Micro SD memory card support. This allows the DS user to store a whole host of new file types, browse through photos, watch movies, and even listen to music on the go. Well, you see it's an undetectable software. It looks as if it's just a regular DS game, but it's not. So Nintendo can't detect it.

^ That's probably because the R4 Card was fake or something, and was actually meant to damage your system. Regular R4 Cards don't that. That's why you got to be careful which website you by them at.

There's something called firmware on the R4 Card, that blocks Nintendo from detecting it on a DSi or a 3DS. The DS Lite and DS original don't have any saftey measures for blocking out R4 cards, so you don't have to have firmware on a R4 Card to use a one on a DS Lite or a DS Original.
