when you close it and walk around every day, the part of the too screen that rests on the bottom screen gets scratched. its a long line of scratches on the top screen that is the exact length of the touch screen borders. this happened to my 2nd 3ds as well. stupidest thing nintendo's ever done in my opinion.

For me, it's a bottom screen like square of scratches on my top screen

Sep it's not really "scratches" its mostly oils from your fingers IE a smudge.

If you have the scribblenaut cover it leaves a mess around your entire 3ds.

for those of you saying its a ing smudge i think i'm smart enough to know the difference thank you. as mentioned earlier its basically a square of scratches. try carrying your DS in your pocket for a few months and you'll see it happening too.
