When doing sketches, use the watercolor brush on the thinnest setting. It works great for sketching.

After doing the sketch, go 2 layers in front of it and start doing the main outline with the thickest pen on the thinnest setting. After that, delete the sketch and start coloring. Merge the colors onto the main outline and make a nice background.
