This has somehow crossed my mind.
Say A user comes in, talks about random stuff. Blah blah blah certain time for pervert chat enters blah blah blah religion. For me, personally, I have no problem discussing religion, but here are some reasons why it may be bad to and need to make it a rule:

#1: It can get uncomfortable. Say One user walks in, says "Praise Jesus!". Another one may come in and Say "Christianity is fake". How is it uncomfortable? By that 2nd user saying that statement, It may persuade users to believe it due to Bandwagon appeal, and may End up not following that religion anymore. Basically, alot of religions with "Worship" figures" have a golden Rule: DON'T leave the religion. It will end up most likely having that user actually end up in that person's description of an underwold because of that. It's a Lose-Lose situation.

#2: It starts drama. I really don't have to explain this but this is basically it. Discussion about religion > Drama > One-Other wins > (depending) Lose-Lose situation occurs.

#3: Discomfort with older parentd/guardians. Say your parent comes in. They see you on your 3ds/Dsi chatting here. Discussion about religion comes on. Parent sees the discussion. The parent may take action, and (depending on the Severity) end up "Sueing" or doing etc. to Robdeprop.

#4: You grew up on it. Lets take you back to when you were around 2-5 years old. Yes, you may suck on the binky and cuddle with your blanky. You were taught your religion by a mother/father or desceased grandma/pa. You keep that in your memory now, until today, where it ends up getting shattered by a user. It'll just destroy your memories back then.

If you look at those reasons this way, It may be a good reason (also maybe benefit) to ban Religious discussion in chats.

I'm free to change what I believe in whenever I want. I don't have to believe what my parents do. But Catholicism have a that rule. Thankfully we aren't catholic.. I have nothing against them but they make bad decisions. Such as a 70 year old man with 20 year old WOman.

Anyways, disagree. Freedom of speech, if we can't, us in USA can sue rob, we have freedom of speech and religion.

@ The topic, yeah, I agree.

It's not a US site, and free speech does not mean it can't be done.

Example:

If your teacher gave you detention for talking, nothing is cared about free speech. You can't sue your teacher for anti-free speech because you got a detention for talking.

"Free speech" in the context means "your opinion is not being forced", not that you can talk about anything, anywhere, anytime. No, otherwise rules like "keep it civil" would be illegal in the US.

Truth is, the US doesn't even have free speech. A guy was jailed 3 years for blurting out secrets of the US army fairly recently.

I wouldn't call that free speech, so stop trying to be smart and denying everything through your false-security "free" speech.

On-topic:

I think it's fair to say the rule also has it's downsides. One you've already seen in this thread is: everyone will complain / feel entitled to their false-security "free speech", causing possibly more drama than religious fights do.

I think a fair(er?) rule would be "don't offend people by their (non-)religions, and don't say certain (non-)religions are better/worse than others."

I agree. 3DSPlaza is worldwide. Meaning that there are many kinds of religion. We should not talk about religion on a worldwide website.

Good point.

By the way I noticed a spelling mistake: Discomfort with older parentd/guardians

I am Atheistic. Religion doesn't apply to me. Also, Satanists aren't actually devil worshippers.
