Introduction
Hey guys! It has been an exciting day with the launch of fresh start, hasn't it? To make your day even better, I decided to make a review for the recently released dsi ware game Bloons Tower Defense.
Graphics
For those of you who don't know, BTD was originally a PC game. The graphics have held up decently in the transition to the dsi, but there are some issues. Certain towers become quite pixely, especially the missile launcher and boomerang thrower. Not to mention the normally intimidating M.O.A.B looks puny and pathetic. This should not be a problem because BTD's graphics are not too demanding, the dsi should be able to handle them. This seems to indicate some laziness on the developers part.
Sound
The sound is pretty much the same as the original. You will hear the tower's darts being thrown and the steady "pop, pop, pop" of bloons, along with pleasant music playing in the background. No complaints here.
Gameplay
Gameplay remains just as addictive as ever. Move your towers around, and use your money to upgrade them, until you have the ultimate bloon killing defense. I'm happy to say, unlike quite a few versions this one is almost completely lag free.
Setup

This set up has its pros and cons. You move your tower around using the touch screen, and select the tower/upgrades you want using the topscreen by using the D-pad to scroll around. It is nice they tried to make use of both screens, but if you're about to be over run and you need a Super Monkey on the double, chances are you won't be able to scroll to it in time. It would have been easier if they just mapped the tower select to the touch screen.
Content
This game has quite a few stages, many of which you have to unlock by getting medals. You get those by making it to level 50 on a certain stage. Easy difficulty earns you bronze, medium silver, and hard gold. This does give the game some decent staying power. However, one huge let down for me is that the game will not let you play past level 50. One of the things I loved was seeing how far a could make it past level 50, and it is just a shame this version does not allow it.
Conclusion
Overall, BTD for dsiware is a decent game you may want to consider downloading. And at 500 dsi points/5 dollars, its not as huge of a rip off as other iphone/PC ports. However the game is not without its hiccups such as strange pixelation, and the odd removal of playing past level 50. Its up to you whether or not this game warrants a purchase.
