^ if you had better things to do, why would you make it anyway? It's not really proving a point. Levi's art was clearly worth the extra effort because it looks so much better than a 20 minute click-fest that has no depth or clusters.
It doesn't matter if the artwork takes "minimal skill"...as long as it looks nice, that's the point.

I'm not entirely sure why the criticism on most art pieces recently have been so harsh. There's no need to for this, guys. No one is going to get better at art if you just say "that sucks" or "I could draw that when I sneeze"....give examples or tips on how they can improve...or better yet, encourage them. Not all of us are born art geniuses or have access to art classes. Consider the kind of comments you'd want to see on your art.

I only wanted to prove that it doesn't need to take too long to make a nice looking space scene in Gimp. It's good that it doesn't take too long to make it look good. If you wanna spend several hours making it much better than my 20 minute make up then by all means, do so. I had other stuff to draw too though, so I just didn't spend anymore time on it. Here's an art tip though: if you go into professional art, you WILL be criticized harshly. The original piece could use more gradient though, as already stated. There's a little white splotch somewhere on it too that would drive me nuts.

As everybody in this forum knows, I am in professional art. I have made several covers for bands, advertisements, OC art, animations, etc. all for money. Nobody ever criticises the time it took. Just the look of it. Who cares how long it took? The outcome is still the same. Also, Meia was the only one who I recognized in professionalism. MEaning, when I go to art-sepcific forums, and I post things, I am never told anything like "This sucks." Or "I could do this in twenty minutes." it's always what I am doing wrong, specifically, or what I'm doing right. Here is what I get when I post on my other art forums:

"That seems cool. It needs a little more gradiant in it, and it seems like you worked too hard. Maybe if you used ____ with a ___ layer and went on with a ____ then ____ then it would take a shorter time. I like what you're trying to do here. It's just not coming out wuite like you hope it would."

HEre is another example. I posted an invitation to a party on an art forum, and this was the reply:

" I'm enjoying the theme! What is your audience? Old/young? Formal/informal?
A little hard to read, because the background is so dark. Also, the font is distracting me from the message.
So maybe try lightening the background, and playing around some more with fonts? Fonts are super tricky. I suggest finding something simple with a little twist to it.

(Sorry if I'm too blunt)."


I also did A test to see the difference between 3dsplaza, and other websites, by posting a bunch of wallpapers I made in five minutes using www.weavesilk.com, and claimed I made it by hand.

What I would get here: You made this on silk, faggot. What a moron! -insert a string of hate comments, etc. along with a lifetime of shunning from the forums-


What I got on there: If I'm not mistaken, you made this in silk. If you can offer me some proof as to this being your work, that would be great. Otherwise I'll have to assume it's not your work.

My reply: I was just trying to make a point on another website. Thanks.

This website is literally, the only community that discourages doing your best. Even if your best is crap right now. This is barely any encouragement, and complete doubt of everything anybody does. Aleks, I understand what you're trying to say, but that wasn't constructive. That was useless.
What you just said, was constructive, and makes me want to try and make it better for you.

@Nutzy Noise filters in Gimp can create a static effect. It's useful for creating a starry look if you adjust the levels of colors in Gimp as well.

@Leviathan I know it wasn't constructive. I decided that I would very much hate people saying what I had said to me, so I'm just kinda gonna stop giving little comments like that. In my art classes I give good criticism so I'll try to stray away from comments like my first one and keep towards the more constructive side. I wouldn't say I'm anything professional, but there are more so of professional things I'm getting into, such as designing t-shirts.
