Cool.

Oh and, have you setup a way to customize it?
I saw what you added in the database. Really cool.
CoolApps (2015-11-09 21:10:30)
If by customising it you mean setting a variable name for it then yes.

$aboutme = $userdata['aboutme'];

I mean a UI for users to set their bio

Rulez is doing it

*tries using adminer to access the db*
- access denied

...can you find something other than hostinger

also, just saying, hostinger recently got hacked so it might not be the safest thing to use

It will be fun switching all of this...

I'll switch hosts over the weekend, but what one?
CoolApps (2015-11-10 22:01:51)
That's kind of a tricky question. It really depends how the site is going to be used and what it will end up having.

I typically don't like free hosting (although my personal site does use free hosting because it is not a site with frequent users) because they pretty much show they are free with both limits and performance. I would say, if you can, go for something paid.

Also, rather than switching it, that would probably be a perfect time to rewrite the code.

^ yup.
If you can't find a free host that has less strict limits then it's about time you lighten up your scripts.

@CoolApps
At the moment there aren't really any scripts. The login is just kind of a mess.

I edited the login code from AR7Comm/Retranet so that it removes all of the extra function from Comm/RN but still has the security patches. Might be good to use this. (I'll make a zip later)
http://angelrulez7.com/pierrotsk_login_patched

I'm not really sure what host to use, because I don't have experience with free hosting anymore.
It also seems that some of the hosting I used to use (like AntServe) has now disappeared and it seems now hosting from YouHosting sites (such as ServersFree) doesn't seem to work.

After an hour of tinkering, here's a rough thing I made. (it took an hour because I was looking through the convoluted code at the same time)

Nice!

Thanks, and I'll switch to this script giving you and pieerrostck_(I probably typo'd that, but I won't in credits)
CoolApps (2015-11-12 12:30:32)
My question is: why can't it be made from scratch?
Newer account: NodePoint
TheAlexRider (2015-11-12 13:32:40)
Most of it is, just for simplicity, it's easier to just use a basic login script, then expand from it

It worked with ar7comm and retranet...
angelrulez7 (2015-11-12 19:12:22)
That login script actually needed a lot of patching because of how insecure it was lol

Dammit angel, ruining my self esteem

Don't ask how
CoolApps (2015-11-12 23:32:16)
Yes but here's my point (pls don't be offended by it Angel): by creating a login/register script by scratch, you would know EXACTLY how it works and how to easily fix/add/remove things from it. Plus, if you know how it works inside-out then you can figure out the most important thing completely: security.
Don't always rely on scripts from external sources. They aren't always secure. For instance, this is vulnerable to XSS/CSS/HTML injection and stripslashes() should never be used how it's being used.

If you want the positives of creating it yourself:
- Learning a lot more PHP and the logic behind it <- MAIN ONE
- Understanding how it all works (I mean WITHOUT having to refer back to the script[s], I don't care if you claim that you do know about everything in the script[s])
- Easy modifications when they are really needed
- Can be way more efficient (which lets face it pierrotsks login/register/user system script(s) patched or not is not light and therefore not friendly for free hosting [or more specifically resources, you want to be able to handle as much visitors as possible right?])

Please. I strongly urge you to make your own one or people are going to have problems in trusting the security and maintainability.
If you want it the easy way then you're better off using a social network builder, else if you want to have the site you do intend to have then you can't be taking the easy route.

Think of it as having a baby. You want to raise it up with it learning things from you.
If you want to take it easy then you would hand it over to a nanny or whoever would care for minors for most of the time and when older into a care home. All this shows is a lack of care, the child won't learn much from you, and it would be very vague to know what they're like.
If you're going to take the hard route, then that means dedicating most of your time with them learning from them and them learning from you. Caring for them. Willing to try new things. Up for the challenge.
