"Nintendo does a really good job compressing files!" Bullcrap. Have you realized you're playing on a 3DS? Low graphical quality, and Smash Bros is a button-smashing arena game, meaning it's the same thing over and over again, different maps or game modes, it doesn't matter.
That said, I'm not hating on SSB or the 3DS. I absolutely adore the console. Graphics don't really matter either. But the low download size is not surprising at all.

Nothing to see here...

2. Well, good thing I have a 16GB SD card....

If you need a 8 or 16g card just to hold one Nintendo game is kind of messed up, thats to much memory honestly.

The 3DS doesn't have all that much space to begin with. I don't think downloading any retail game is a good idea.

New Super Mario Bros. 2
I wanted to download it.

Bit. Trip Saga
It was $4.99 in the eShop. I love the Bit. Trip games, and especially for that awesome deal. $39.99 vs $4.99. No brainer deal.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
My local GameStop ran out of physical copies, so I chose to download it instead because I couldn't wait to play the game any longer.
